Spring Home Maintenance Checklist

Denver Home Maintenance

Welcome to your Spring Home Maintenance Checklist!

Spring is a great time to give your home some TLC and prepare for the warmer months ahead. Here’s a comprehensive home maintenance checklist to help you get started.

Your Spring Home Maintenance Checklist

  1. Clean Gutters and Downspouts: After the last frost has passed, ensure your gutters and downspouts are cleaned and repaired. Clogged gutters can lead to overflows, trim rot and attract critters into your attic space.
  2. Reseal Exterior Woodwork: Stain or reseal wood decks, fences, railings, trellises, pergolas, and other outdoor structures.
  3. Inspect the Roof: Conduct a visual inspection of your roof. Look for missing shingles, damaged metal pipes, or anything that doesn’t appear right. If you had a big storm in your area and you know your roof might need replacing, get to it before your insurance coverage for that storm expires.
  4. Paint the Exterior: If you plan to repaint your home’s exterior, spring is an ideal time to set it up.
  5. Inspect Driveways and Paths: Freezing and thawing can damage concrete, asphalt, and other hardscaping materials. Walk around your property to check for any damage to walkways, paths, and driveways. You may want to seal any concrete cracks.
  6. Pruning Time – If you didn’t do it in the fall now is the time. Prune back dead branches on any bushes on your property. Have dead tree limbs cut back and anything overhanging your home cut away. Native grasses need to be assessed every 3 years and the dead grasses need to be removed.
  7. Check Your Sprinkler System – As a realtor I see so many times where people just leave sprinkler system issues. This can cause damage to your landscaping and even foundation if there is too much water leaking out. Have your system assessed and replace and heads or parts of the system that aren’t working correctly.

  8. Clean and Service Your HVAC system – Getting your AC serviced is a good idea before the weather gets hot. Don’t just change your filters, have a expert come out and make sure your system is in good working condition. This can save you money on your cooling bills and future maintenance.
  9. Spring Cleaning – Now is a great time to clean up the inside of your home too! Ceiling fans, ovens, baseboards and even washing down your windows and walls will have your home feeling fresh for the summer!
